Construction of Indore's largest double-decker flyover at Lavkush Square has entered its final phase, with only a small portion of the project left to be completed. Work on one span, the bowstring of the Banganga-Ujjain stretch, and the approach road is still in progress and is expected to take about a month.
Meanwhile, construction of the Ujjain-to-Banganga stretch has been largely completed. Only approach work at a few locations remains. Following the successful completion of load testing, authorities are preparing to open this stretch for traffic, which is expected to ease congestion at the busy intersection.
Key Stretch May Open This Month
At present, traffic from Lavkush Square towards Banganga has been diverted due to the construction of a service road.
The Indore Development Authority (IDA) is planning to open one stretch of the flyover later this month. Once operational, it will allow vehicles travelling from Aurobindo Hospital towards Banganga to bypass the intersection, providing relief from traffic signals and long queues for thousands of daily commuters.
The IDA has already completed load testing of the bowstring and concrete segments on this arm. The technical consultant has also submitted the safety report, clearing the structure for operation. Only final finishing work, lighting tests and trial runs remain before the flyover is opened.
Final Finishing In Progress
IDA CEO Parikshit Jhade said one arm of the flyover is complete and is currently undergoing final finishing. Testing of the modern LED lighting system is also underway.
Once opened, the flyover will improve connectivity towards Ujjain Road and Banganga, while also reducing traffic pressure on the service road connecting Ujjain Road and MR-10.
However, only one arm will be opened initially. The second arm is expected to become operational after around two months.
With the new stretch in service, vehicles travelling from Ujjain Road will be able to reach Banganga, Marimata and the Sanwer Road Industrial Area without stopping at Lavkush Square, reducing travel time and easing congestion.
