Special cell of the Delhi police foiled a major and deadly terror plan of a Pakistan-backed terror outfit by carrying out 10-days long probe. The terror plan was linked to Pakistan's Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). Police arrested 8 people, and 7 of them are Bangladeshi nationals.

What Was The Operation

The investigation began when several posters of ‘Free Kashmir’ and ‘Stop Genocide in Kashmir’ were put up on many metro stations in Delhi and Kolkata. The special cell of the Delhi police began after security agencies were alerted. Two suspects, identified as Umar Farooq and Robil ul Islam, were arrested in West Bengal’s Malda initially. After the technical investigation of their phone content, the police were able to trace other suspects who were hiding in Tamil Nadu.

Other suspects were arrested in the next step of the probe. Two were traced in Uthukuli, three from Palladam, and one from Thirumuruganpoondi in Tiruppur district, identified as Mizanur Rahman, Mohammed Shabat, Umar, Mohammed Litan, Mohammed Shahid, and Mohammed Ujjal.

All the arrested suspects were working in a garment factory established using fake Aadhar cards. Police have recovered 16 SIMs and 8 phones from the arrested individuals.

Suspects Linked To Bangladesh, Pakistan

As per the details of the case revealed by the investigation officers, the entire terror operation was being managed from Bangladesh, and a handler, Shabbir Ahmed Lone, was providing instructions to operators. Shabbir was arrested in 2007 for plotting a suicide attack in India and was jailed. When he was released from jail, he left India and joined LeT. Shabbir set up his basein Bangladesh and stayed in touch with Pakistan-based terror groups. The suspects arrested by the Delhi Police Special Cell were also in contact with another Bangladeshi handler, Saidul Islam. Islam is believed to be based in another country.

The operation by the special cell of the Delhi police is still on, and raids are being carried out at several places as some other members of the module are believed to be on the run. The poster incident revealed the presence of such a module, which was timely busted. The police are currently investigating the foreign connections, funding and potential targets of suspects who are currently being brought to Delhi for further questioning.
