In view of the upcoming IPL 2026 final and the heavy surge in passenger demand, Western Railway has introduced two special superfast trains between Mumbai and Ahmedabad to manage the extra rush of cricket fans travelling for the match.
Special Trains Announced
According to Western Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Vineet Abhishek, the decision was taken after assessing the surge in demand for the IPL final. He said the railways regularly run special trains during peak travel periods like festivals and major events. The IPL 2026 final is scheduled for Sunday, May 31 between defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The match is expected to attract a huge crowd at the world’s largest cricket stadium.

“Seeing the demands for IPL finals, we started these special trains. Today booking started and tickets are selling out fast, have almost reached 100 per cent capacity. We always keep assessing the demands and accordingly we run special trains, just like for holidays and festival seasons," Abhishek was quoted as saying by News 18.
Timings And Other Details
For outbound travel, a Mumbai Central-Ahmedabad AC Superfast Special will depart at 6:20 am on Sunday and reach Ahmedabad at 12:40 pm, allowing fans ample time to reach the stadium before the match. For return passengers, an Ahmedabad-Bandra Terminus Special will leave at 3:50 am on June 1 and arrive in Mumbai by 12:15 pm on Monday. Bookings are open via PRS counters and the IRCTC website, with seats reportedly filling up quickly due to high demand.
In a post on X, Ahmedabad Railway Division (DRM) also shared updates about the trains. It said that the train will use a Shatabdi rake featuring Executive Chair Car, AC Chair Car, Anubhuti Class coaches, and a Vistadome coach, offering passengers a comfortable and premium travel experience.
