External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar will brief the Parliament on the West Asia crisis on Monday. The Lok Sabha Secretariat has listed it on the agenda list.
The second phase of the Budget Session of the Parliament is set to begin on Monday. Jaishankar's address to the House will include key aspects like developments in the region and India's position, India's diplomatic outreach and the safety of Indian nationals stranded or living in West Asian countries.
Recently, at an event in Delhi, the External Affairs Minister said that the government has been maintaining "very close contact" with governments across West Asia, with a focus on the safety of Indian citizens.
The government has cleared its stance on the issue, reiterating the need for restraint and dialogue. It has warned the countries that further escalation could destabilise the region, which has been in a war-like scenario for a few years now.
The long-brewing tensions in the Middle East turned deadly as on February 28, the United States and Israel jointly struck Iran, citing an existential threat as talks over Tehran's nuclear programme were already underway.
Iran suffered a major setback in the strikes as Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei and several other senior leaders were killed, prompting fierce retaliation by Tehran.
Tehran has widened the theatre of its attack to not just Israel but US assets in other regional countries initially, and their critical infrastructure in the next few days.
