Iran-Israel War Updates: Tehran woke up to oil-saturated rain, thick black clouds, and fumes on Sunday morning after Israeli air forces carried out overnight strikes on four major oil facilities towards the south and west of the city.
Explosions at the refineries generated massive fireballs and huge columns of black smoke, while the oil-filled rain with dark residue was also reported across the city. Authorities urged residents to wear masks and warned that the strikes had severely damaged critical fuel infrastructure essential for powering Tehran.
Israeli Airtrikes On Iran
According to the Iranian news agency FARS, four oil storage facilities and oil production transfer centres in Tehran and Alborz were hit during the overnight strikes by the Israeli air force.
According to the head of Iran's National Oil Products Distribution Company, four tanker drivers who were present at the centre during the attack were killed.
Tehran Wakes To Oil-Saturated Rain After Overnight Airstrikes
Following the overnight strikes at oil refineries in Tehran, residents witnessed unusual, oil-soaked rainfall in addition to the smoke and raging fires. Polluted smoke from the fire, caused by the strikes at the oil facilities, appears to have mixed with rain clouds, resulting in dark, oily rain falling across certain parts of the city, The Sunday Guardian reported.
Fuel Supply Temporarily Disrupted Across Tehran
The attacks damaged key facilities, disrupting fuel distribution across parts of the city. Tehran's governor, Mohammad Sadegh Motamedian, said the fuel supply in the capital city had been "temporarily interrupted" after the distribution network was damaged.
“The problem is being resolved,” he said, adding that repair work had already begun. Authorities said emergency and technical teams are working to restore fuel supplies as quickly as possible.
Israeli Military Confirms Airstrikes
The Israeli military later confirmed that its air force carried out the strikes at oil storage facilities in Tehran. According to Israeli officials, the aim was to prevent fuel resources from being used by Iran's military.
The attacks come amid the ongoing conflict involving Israel, the United States, and Iran, which escalated on February 28 following joint US-Israeli strikes on Iran.
