With support from Google, Dainik Jagran and Vishwas News organised a webinar for senior citizens of Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh, under the Digikavach initiative on Tuesday. The session was held as part of the 'Digital Safety of Senior Citizens: Sach Ke Saathi' campaign and focused on educating elderly citizens about online scams and preventive measures.

The webinar was supported by Nav Welfare Seva Samiti. Experts highlighted how cyber criminals use phishing links and fake websites to trap users, stressing that awareness and caution are key to staying safe in the digital space.

Vishwas News Deputy Editor Pallavi Mishra explained various types of cyber scams using real-life examples. She warned that clicking on unknown or suspicious links could lead to a complete loss of hard-earned savings.

She also guided participants on creating strong passwords for Google and social media accounts, recommending the use of passkeys and two-factor authentication for enhanced security. Senior citizens were advised to avoid clicking on phishing links sent through tempting messages.

Mishra further cautioned that fraudsters often impersonate bank or insurance agents to steal personal and banking details, which are then misused to issue credit cards and cause financial losses. She advised people never to share personal information or OTPs and urged them to report cyber crimes immediately by calling 1930.

Mohammad Miraj, Manager of Nav Welfare Seva Samiti in Sitapur, appreciated the initiative and said such webinars play a crucial role in helping senior citizens safeguard themselves against cyber fraud.

Special Webinars on January 21

As part of the Digikavach programme, special webinars for senior citizens will be organised on January 21 in Shahjahanpur and Gorakhpur. Ehsaas Social Welfare Society and Rising Welfare Society are supporting the initiative in Shahjahanpur and Gorakhpur, respectively.

About the Campaign

Under the 'Digital Safety of Senior Citizens: Sach Ke Saathi' campaign, Jagran Digital and Vishwas News are conducting seminars and webinars across 30 cities in 20 states. The initiative aims to train people to identify online scams and protect themselves from digital fraud. Google's Digikavach campaign continues to raise nationwide awareness against online fraud and scams in India.
