Jammu-Kashmir Election Results Highlights: NC-Congress Alliance Wins Big, Omar Abdullah Top CM Contender; BJP Wins 29 Seats

Jammu And Kashmir Election Result 2024 Live Updates: The Congress and National Conference alliance appears set to secure a majority in Jammu and Kashmir Assembly election with lead in over 50 seats. The results of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Election 2024 are set to be announced on Tuesday, with counting starting at 8 am. Election officials and party representatives arrived at the counting stations by 5 am and counting is expected to continue till late evening. This election is particularly significant, being the first in a decade and the first since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, which bifurcated the state into two union territories.
The 90-member assembly election was held in three phases: September 18, September 25, and October 1. Major political players include the National Conference-Congress alliance, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Voter turnout was recorded at 63.45 per cent, higher than the participation in the recent Lok Sabha elections, reflecting strong voter engagement. Unlike previous elections, voting was peaceful across all phases, without any major disruptions.
Exit polls suggest that the NC-Congress-CPM alliance holds an edge over the BJP, while the PDP, which previously allied with the BJP, is expected to suffer a major setback. However, two exit polls indicate that the NC alliance might fall short of a majority, while a third suggests they could just reach the required numbers. With a significant number of independents expected to win, the NC is projected to be in a better position to form the government than the BJP.
As vote counting progresses, attention will be focused on whether INDIA coalition can thwart the BJP's plans and make a mark in this crucial election, the first since Jammu and Kashmir’s political status was altered following the abrogation of Article 370.
