Roads in Jammu and Kashmir have been temporarily closed to traffic as the rain continues to lash the hilly regions. On Saturday, March 30, the Jammu-Poonch Highway has been temporarily closed due to heavy overnight rains that caused landslides in the Poonch district's Surankot area.
Due to the landslide caused by the night rains, traffic on the important highway is hindered.
Warning the commuters, Jammu and Kashmir Police said, “Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) is still blocked due to shooting stones at many places between Nashri and Banihal likewise Mehad, Panthyal, Mom Passi, Kishtwari Pather etc. Weather raining on whole national highway.”
To remove the debris and bring normalcy back to the area, efforts are currently underway. The link roads are now the route for traffic.
The authorities have advised commuters to maintain land discipline and be cautious of shooting stones from the mountains. “People are advised to avoid journey on NH-44 till the weather improved and road is clear,” said the Jammu and Kashmir Police in a post on X.

On Friday, a passenger taxi on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway fell into a deep gorge, reportedly killing ten people.
The car rolled down roughly 300 meters after the collision, which happened at 1.15 AM close to Battery Chashma in the Ramban area of Jammu and Kashmir.
When a group of police officers, the UT Disaster Response Force, and a civil Quick Response Team in Ramban arrived at the scene, the rescue effort was quickly underway.
