Jharkhand Lightning Deaths: The change in weather in Jharkhand not only brought relief in temperatures, but also destruction with it. At least eight people lost their lives while several others were injured in lightning strikes across six districts of the state in the last 24 hours.

According to the police, three people were killed in Hazaribagh, while the other 5 deaths have been reported in Palamu, Lohardaga, Ramgarh, West Singhbhum and Godda districts. The deceased include two women and a two-year-old child. "At least eight people were killed in lightning strikes across six districts of the state in the last 24 hours," a police official said, as quoted by PTI.

Jharkhand has been witnessing inclement weather conditions, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a yellow alert for heavy rains and thunderstorms in several districts, including Ranchi, Lohardaga, East Singhbhum, and West Singhbhum, till June 24.

The casualties came a week after seven deaths were reported from across the states due to lightning strikes on June 13. The deaths were reported from Ranchi, Garhwa, Chatra, Giridih, and Seraikela-Kharsawan districts.

According to the weather department, a cyclonic circulation over the eastern and adjoining central parts of Jharkhand is expected to bring more thunderstorms, rain, and lightning in the next few days. The IMD has issued an orange alert for 14 districts, including Ranchi, Hazaribagh, Khunti, and Ramgarh, Giridih, Koderma, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Deoghar, Dumka, Jamtara, Godda, Sahibganj, and Pakur.

Meanwhile, a yellow alert has been issued for the entire state, with IMD predicting cloudy skies, scattered rainfall, and lightning till June 24.

On Thursday, Deoghar recorded the highest rainfall at 14 mm, while Medininagar and Bokaro witnessed light drizzles. Ranchi remained overcast throughout the day. Temperatures hovered significantly high in some areas, with Medininagar recording a maximum of 42°C, Bokaro at 38.1°C, Chaibasa at 36.8°C, Jamshedpur at 36.6°C, and Ranchi at 35.1°C.
