Kanwar Yatra 2024: In a bid to make the upcoming Kanwar Yatra a success, top officials from Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand have collaborated to make a action plan. Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar and Director General of Police Prashant Kumar recently convened a meeting with officers from four states to discuss the strategies in place.
A key focus of this year's Kanwar Yatra will be the extensive use of technology. "Eight control rooms will be established to connect Haridwar to Delhi, allowing us to closely monitor the Kanwariyas' movement," explained DGP Prashant Kumar. CCTV cameras will be linked to these control rooms, as well as the mobile devices of the officers on duty, ensuring seamless coordination and real-time tracking.

Kanwar Yatra Traffic
Traffic management has been a key priority for the authorities. From July 25, a single-lane system will be implemented on the Delhi-Doon Highway and on July 27, route diversions will be enforced across all Kanwar Yatra routes. The highway will be completely closed from August 1 to facilitate the smooth passage of the devotees.
Kanwariyas Welcome
Adding to the festive atmosphere, the officials have planned a unique welcome for the Kanwariyas. "We will be showering flowers from helicopters, especially in the premises of Aughadnath Temple, Pura Mahadev Temple and Dudheshwar Nath Temple," revealed Prashant Kumar.
Ensuring the safety and security of the devotees is of paramount importance. Apart from the deployment of civil police, the authorities have also mobilised PAC (Provincial Armed Constabulary) and paramilitary forces. "We will not compromise on security measures," the DGP affirmed.
DJ Restriction In Kanwar Yatra
The DGP announced increased police presence along the Ganganahar track for Kanwar Yatra 2024. Following last year's fatal incident in Meerut's Rali Chauhan, strict measures include limiting DJ height to 12 feet, width to 16 feet, and sound levels to 75 decibels.
Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar emphasised the need to address the flaws in the Kanwar Yatra route based on lessons learned from past incidents. "We will work to ensure that such accidents do not occur again," he stated, adding that Kanwariyas will be provided with ID cards that include the contact information of their relatives, facilitating emergency response.
Emergency Medical Services
The authorities have also made arrangements for emergency medical services, with small and large vehicles equipped with doctors, medicines and other necessary facilities, ready to be deployed along the Kanwar Yatra route.
To maintain a smooth flow of traffic, the movement of vehicles will continue on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway during the Kanwar Yatra. A one-way system will be implemented on the Delhi Road, allowing city residents to access the expressway in their private vehicles without facing any disruptions.
Devotees Participating In Kanwar Yatra
The expected numbers of devotees participating in the Kanwar Yatra are staggering. Approximately 30 lakh devotees from Meerut, 13 lakh from Baghpat, 5 lakh from Ghaziabad, 3.50 lakh from Hapur, 1.75 lakh from Bulandshahr and 2.50 lakh from Gautam Buddha Nagar are expected to undertake the holy pilgrimage.
