Jagran Correspondent, East Delhi: A massive fire broke out in the scanning room of Karkardooma Court early Sunday morning. Since it was a holiday, only police officers were present in the court at the time of the incident. Eight fire engines brought the fire under control after an hour of effort.
Record Room Safe
Laptops and other items in the scanning room were destroyed. Fortunately, the court's record room, located adjacent to this room, was spared.
Firefighters were alerted about the fire at 5:22 am on Sunday morning. The blaze broke out in the scanning room on the second floor of the court.
Shahdara Bar Association Secretary Narveer Dabas said that the scanning room digitises court records. As per Debas on working days, the court is very crowded. A major tragedy was averted since it was a Sunday. He further added that the cause of the fire is not yet known.
The court fire incident comes after a devastating fire at a bed-and-breakfast establishment in South Delhi's Malviya Nagar area in the early hours of Wednesday claimed at least 21 lives, including 13 foreign nationals, and left several others injured.
During the investigation, authorities allegedly discovered multiple safety violations and serious deficiencies in the building's fire safety infrastructure.
According to sources cited by ANI, the windows and glass panels of the building had been completely sealed, leaving no outlet for smoke to escape. Investigators also found that the entrance to the basement was locked from the inside. Rescue teams reportedly took nearly 10 minutes to gain access to the basement, from where six to seven people were rescued.
