Karnataka: There has been a noticeable rise in dog-related fatalities, with a recent incident highlighting the dangers. A 44-year-old man tragically lost his life in a road accident in Athani after a stray dog chased his motorcycle, causing him to lose control and crash into a house wall.

The deceased, identified as Vishwanath Shirol, was riding his motorcycle when the accident occurred. The accident occurred on January 15 in the Kumbara Galli area of Athani, in Belagavi district, but the details only emerged after police reviewed local CCTV footage.

Initially, locals believed that Shirol had died in a routine motorcycle mishap. However, after reviewing CCTV footage from the area, it was revealed that a stray dog had been chasing him just before the crash.

In an attempt to avoid being bitten, Shirol appeared to panic, lost his balance, and collided with a residential wall, suffering fatal injuries.

Family members shared that Shirol had a deep fear of dogs, due to a past incident where he had been bitten by a stray. He was the primary breadwinner for his family, leaving behind a wife and three children.

The incident has sparked significant outrage among the residents of Athani, who are raising concerns about the growing number of stray dogs in the area. Many are urging local authorities to take swift action to prevent similar incidents in the future.
