Karnataka News: A woman from Karnataka's Shivamogga district died after being bitten by a pet cat. The 50-year-old woman belongs to Tarlaghatta village in Shikaripur Taluk of the district and has been identified as Gangibai.

According to a doctor, the woman died of rabies following the cat bite. The woman's leg was bitten two months ago by a domestic cat. After attacking a young guy in a Tarlaghatta camp, the cat bit the woman.

The woman died from rabies, according to the doctor, as a result of the cat bite. The bite required the woman to receive many injections. However, after a single shot, she recovered. Thereafter, she did not receive further shots.

The woman died as a result of her carelessness in skipping the injection.

Additionally, rabies can be spread via an infected animal's saliva if it comes into touch with the mucous membranes of humans or other animals. Dog bites are the primary source of rabies in humans. Here, a cat-transmitted case of rabies claimed the woman's life.

The previous year, a rabies infection is said to have killed a government teacher and his 24-year-old son in less than a week. The pair in the town of Akbarpur, Uttar Pradesh, suffered bite and scratch wounds from their male cat. It was revealed by the officials that a stray dog had bit the cat.

Cat bites are second only to dog bites in terms of the percentage of animal bite-related injuries worldwide, according to a new World Health Organisation (WHO) research.
