Kerala CM Announcement: After days of intense lobbying and backroom consultations, the Congress on Thursday announced senior leader VD Satheesan as the next Chief Minister of Kerala.

The announcement came after the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting in Thiruvananthapuram, ending days of mounting suspense regarding the state's leadership.

Satheesan's elevation brings an end to the prolonged uncertainty that overshadowed the United Democratic Front’s (UDF) victory in the Kerala Assembly elections, where the alliance secured 102 out of 140 seats.

Congress Legislature Party Elects VD Satheesan As Its Leader

At a meeting held at the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram, the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) elected Satheesan as its leader, paving the way for him to stake a claim to form the next government.

The announcement comes after multiple rounds of discussions in Delhi between senior Congress leaders, including Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi.

Following the announcement of the new Chief Minister of Kerala, AICC General Secretary  KC Venugopal  said, "I accept the Congress party's decision to elect V.D. Satheesan as the Chief Minister of Kerala." According to a report by Jagran.com, citing sources, Venugopal name was also under discussion.

Who Is VD Satheesan? 

Satheesan was born on May 31, 1964, in Ernakulam district. He was good at academics since childhood. Satheesan practised as an advocate after completing his law degree before entering active politics

He served at SH College in Thevara and later became chairman of the union of the MG University. Satheesan later served as national secretary of the NSUI, the student wing of the Congress. 

He contested from the Paravur constituency, considered left-dominated, and lost to the LDF candidate. However, the Congress leader persisted and emerged victorious in the next six elections from the seat. 

Satheesan was appointed as the leader of the opposition after the alliance suffered a humiliating defeat in the 2021 polls.
