Kerala Local Body Election Results 2025 Live Updates: CM Vijayan Calls For Corrective Measures After Setback To LDF; BJP Wins Trivandrum

Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal on Saturday called it a "big victory" for the party-led led-United Democratic Front (UDF) as the opposition alliance is leading in most of the seats in Kerala local body polls. He also expressed confidence that they will win the next assembly elections in the state, which are expected to be held in April 2026.

"This is an election in the history of Kerala local body polls where the UDF and Congress have secured the maximum number of seats. This is a big victory for us. Certainly, the trend is very clear; we are going to win the next assembly elections. We have performed well in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation compared to the last election. But the problem is that the CPM has not performed well at all. This is because there was a huge anti-incumbency wave against them. Their policies these days are such that they are completely supporting the central government. I think their cadres voted for the BJP in some seats. That's why this result has come. But we will fight against this," he said.

The lotus bloomed in the state capital on Saturday as the BJP-led NDA achieved a resounding win in the polls for the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, snatching it from the CPI(M)-led LDF and marking an end to 45 years of continuous Left rule in the local body. Of the 101 wards in Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, the BJP won 50, LDF 29, UDF 19 and two by independent candidates.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday said the LDF did not achieve the expected results in the local body elections. In a statement, Vijayan said the LDF had hoped for a strong victory across the state, but was unable to make such an advance. Vijayan said the LDF would undertake detailed discussions and take decisions in the coming days to move forward with the collective support of the people.

"The reasons for this will be examined in detail, and we will move forward after making the necessary corrections," he said. Referring to the state capital, the chief minister said the NDA gaining an upper hand in Thiruvananthapuram and the influence of communalism during the election campaign were matters of concern for those who believed in secularism.

"The election result served as a warning that greater vigilance was required to ensure that people did not fall prey to the misinformation and divisive tactics of communal forces. The need to intensify the fight against all forms of communalism has been underlined by this result," he said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed BJP's performance in Thiruvanathapuram and Palakkad, where the party has emerged as the single largest party. In a post on X, PM Modi wrote, "My gratitude to the people across Kerala who voted for BJP and NDA candidates in the local body polls in the state. Kerala is fed up of UDF and LDF. They see NDA as the only option that can deliver on good governance and build a #VikasitaKeralam with opportunities for all."

The BJP has emerged victorious in the Palakkad Municipal Corporation after grabbing 25 wards of the total 53 wards. This will be third consecutive time when the saffron brigade will rule the Palakkad Municipal Corporation. However, the BJP has fell two wards short of winning a complete majority. The UDF has won 17 wards, and the LDF has won 8 wards. The remaining three wards werw won by independent candidates.

Two independent candidates -- Sudeesh Kumar and Pattur Radhakrishnan -- have won two wards in the Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation. While Sudeesh registered victory in Poundkadavu ward, Pattur Radhakrishnan emerged victorious in Kannammoola ward.  

Kerala Local Body Ward Wise Election Result 2025 Live Updates: Congress-led UDF has won Ernakulam Municipal Corporation. The UDF has won 46 wards out of 76. LDF has got 20 while NDA has won 6 wards.
