Kerala News: A 42-year-old man took his life after an allegation of sexual harassment led to a vicious campaign of online trials and public shaming. The incident occurred after a video of a woman alleging that he inappropriately touched her on a local bus went viral on social media. The episode ended in tragedy, triggered by the devastating impact of online trials and ruthless public shaming.
The incident came to light on Sunday when 42-year-old Deepak U was found dead in his room at his home in Govindhapuram, Kozhikode. His parents grew worried after he did not respond to repeated knocks on his door or calls to his phone starting around 7 am. With the help of neighbours, they forced the door open and discovered him hanging inside the room.

According to the family, Deepak had been under severe mental pressure from the moment the video surfaced online and began circulating rapidly on various platforms. Citing his parents, ANI reported that the video had racked up more than 20 lakh views, leading to a torrent of cruel and relentless online trolling and abuse.
They alleged that the woman responsible for posting the clip had assassinated their son’s character for the sake of gaining fame. The family added that throughout his life, Deepak had avoided all forms of controversy.
What Is The Case
The video, which appeared days before Deepak died, showed a woman saying he had touched her inappropriately more than once on a packed bus from Payyannur railway station to the bus stand.
It went viral online and led to a lot of public anger. Many users openly shamed and named Deepak without official proof. His family said the massive cyber abuse and nonstop online attacks left him deeply distressed and humiliated. They feel he couldn’t handle the pressure anymore and chose to end his life.

The police have filed a case for unnatural death and are looking into every detail of the incident, including the reasons behind the suicide. The woman who made the video has not made any statement since Deepak’s death. She is reportedly now receiving online abuse herself after what happened.
