Kerala News: A former student of a private school in Kerala's Thrissur district was detained after he forced his way into his alma mater on Tuesday and allegedly fired multiple shots from a gun while brandishing the firearm, news agency PTI reported. No one was harmed in the incident. The accused has reportedly been identified as Jagan.
He entered the premises of Thrissur's Vivekodayam school and, subsequently, whipped a gun out of his bag after entering the staff room, PTI said in its report. According to the report, the accused later went from classroom to cloassroom, terrorising students and staff.
The police said an investigation into the matter was underway. Following the incident, Thrissur District Collector VR Krishna Teja visited the school to take stock of the situation. He said the accused would be evaluated for his mental stability.
"A young person has come to the school. He was a bit unsteady and used his pistol and fired two or three rounds. That's what the school authorities have told us. He was taken into custody. It's an isolated incident and an investigation is on. There is no need to worry. We are all here. He will be produced before the doctor," Teja was quoted as saying by PTI.
A CCTV camera installed inside the school staff room captured the accused brandishing a gun therein. His age could not be ascertained immediately, PTI said.
