Kulgam Encounters: Six terrorists have been gunned down in two separate encounters that were underway in Jammu & Kashmir's Kulgam district on Sunday, officials said. According to officials, two Indian Army soldiers also lost their lives in the encounters, which broke out on Saturday.
Security forces were carrying out search operations to locate other terrorists in hiding. The first encounter broke out between terrorists and security forces in Modergam village. Hours later, another encounter broke out in the Frisal Chinnigam area of the district.
"According to confirmation, encounters have happened on two different encounter sites. 6 terrorists have been neutralised... Undoubtedly this is a big milestone for the security forces and these successes matter in strengthening the security environment," J&K DGP RR Swain said. He added, "The current operation is still underway and has not reached its conclusion... We have received news of the involvement of local terrorists as well."
Meanwhile, in an unrelated incident, an Army soldier sustained injuries after terrorists opened fire on a security post in J&K's Rajouri, as per officials. The confrontation with terrorists took place as they opened fire on a Territorial Army sentry post in Galuthi village at around 4 am on Sunday, officials informed.
The firing prompted troops to retaliate, the officials said, adding that the terrorists managed to escape into the nearby jungle. According to the officials, cited by news agency PTI, the injured soldier was involved in the gunfight, which lasted for nearly half-an-hour.
