As many as six persons were killed in Himachal’s Kullu after a massive storm uprooted a tree, which fell on vehicles and food stalls in the vicinity this evening. The incident took place near Manikaran Gurdwara after a heavy storm triggered a landslide in the region.
Among the deceased are a roadside vendor, a Sumo driver and three tourists, as reported by IANS.
Upon receiving the information, a joint team from the administration, police and fire department quickly arrived at the scene and initiated rescue operations.
"Six people died, and five were injured after trees were uprooted near Manikaran Gurudwara parking in Kullu. Police and rescue teams of the district administration have shifted five injured to the local community hospital at Jari," ADM Kullu, Ashwani Kumar said.
The accident site was located near a popular spot where street vendors often set up their stalls, contributing to frequent traffic congestion. On this occasion, a long traffic jam had formed near the entrance to the Gurudwara. The tree that had fallen, weakened by a previous forest fire and hollowed out over time, collapsed under its own weight, trapping more than 11 individuals beneath it.
