LPG Cylinder Price Hike: Domestic LPG cylinder prices have been increased across India with effect from Saturday, March 7. The cost of a 14.2 kg domestic cooking gas cylinder has gone up by Rs 60 nationwide, a move that is expected to impact households as well as businesses that rely heavily on LPG.

The prices of both domestic LPG and commercial cylinders were raised by Rs 60 and Rs 114.50, respectively, amid rising global energy costs linked to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

According to the website of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), the price of non-subsidised LPG, typically used by household consumers other than beneficiaries of the Ujjwala scheme, has increased to Rs 913 per 14.2 kg cylinder in Delhi, up from Rs 853 earlier. This marks the second hike in LPG prices within a year.

In Mumbai, the price of a domestic cylinder has increased from Rs 852.50 to Rs 912.50. In Chennai, it has risen from Rs 868.50 to Rs 928.50. The revised rates came into effect today.

Commercial LPG cylinders, widely used by hotels, restaurants and other businesses, have also witnessed a notable price rise. In Delhi, the price of a 19 kg commercial cylinder has increased from Rs 1,768.50 to Rs 1,883.

In Mumbai, the rate has gone up from Rs 1,720.50 to Rs 1,835. In Kolkata, the price has increased from Rs 1,875.50 to Rs 1,990, while in Chennai it has risen from Rs 1,929 to Rs 2,043.50.

Despite the latest increase, cooking gas in India continues to remain cheaper compared with several neighbouring countries, the website indicated. The new prices are effective from March 7.

This is the second hike in LPG prices in the last 11 months. The previous increase of Rs 50 was implemented in April last year.

However, beneficiaries of the Ujjwala Yojana, more than 10 crore economically weaker households that received free LPG connections under the scheme launched in 2016, will continue to receive a subsidy of Rs 300 per 14.2 kg cylinder for up to 12 refills annually.

The price of commercial LPG used by establishments such as hotels and restaurants has been raised by Rs 114.50 per 19 kg cylinder, taking the cost to Rs 1,883 in Delhi. This increase follows an earlier hike of Rs 28 per 19 kg cylinder implemented on March 1.

Overall, commercial LPG rates have risen by Rs 302.50 so far this year.
