Madhya Pradesh is likely to witness heavy rainfall in the coming days as monsoon activity shows a mixed pattern across the country. While Mumbai is experiencing a slowdown in rainfall and Delhi continues to see fluctuating weather conditions, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow and orange alerts for several districts in Madhya Pradesh.

Pre-monsoon conditions have strengthened significantly in the state. Dense cloud cover, cool gusty winds, and widespread showers are being reported from multiple regions. The IMD has stated that the southwest monsoon may reach Madhya Pradesh around June 18, with a weather warning in place until June 19.

During this period, heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and squally winds are expected in several areas.

Meanwhile, the IMD has forecast favourable conditions for the further advancement of the southwest monsoon into parts of Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and South Chhattisgarh over the next two to three days. Heavy rainfall is also expected in several regions today, including the Northeast, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Kerala, Mahe, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.

The weather agency has also warned of thundersquall activity over Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, and West Rajasthan until tomorrow. In addition, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are likely across Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, Interior Karnataka, and West Bengal.

According to the IMD, the temporary slowdown in monsoon progress is not due to insufficient moisture over the ocean. Instead, it is being influenced by unusual upper-atmospheric wind patterns.
