Maharashtra Rains: Maharashtra continues to grapple with the impact of an active monsoon, with heavy rainfall over the past week triggering severe waterlogging, flooding, and multiple rain-related incidents across the state. While the widespread monsoon activity has brought much-needed relief from the humid weather, it has also disrupted normal life and claimed several lives. Mumbai and its neighbouring districts are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall on Friday, with no severe weather warning currently in place for the city or adjoining areas.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar have been placed under a green alert, which means that no weather warning has been issued for Friday.
IMD has predicted light to moderate rainfall, suggesting that intermittent showers are expected. The green alert has also been maintained for the weekend until Monday, July 13.
A yellow alert has been issued for Gadchiroli, Chandrapur, Warha, Amravati, Akola, Buldhana, Raigad, and Kolhapur for Friday. An orange alert has been sounded for Pune and Satara.
However, rain-related problems continue to affect several parts of Maharashtra, with reports of waterlogging, potholes, fallen trees, and traffic disruptions emerging from multiple districts.
At least 63 people have lost their lives and 78 others have been injured in rain-related incidents across Maharashtra during the current monsoon season. According to the latest situation report released by the Maharashtra State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), the casualties were recorded between June 1 and July 8, 2026.
Mumbai has also witnessed a sharp rise in tree-fall incidents. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said it has received more than 1,700 complaints of fallen trees and branches since July 1, compared to 855 during the same period last year.
According to the BMC's daily monsoon report, 1,711 incidents of tree and branch falls were reported across the city till 8 am on Thursday, including 693 in the western suburbs, 510 in the island city, and 508 in the eastern suburbs.
Fallen trees and branches have emerged as one of the biggest challenges during the ongoing monsoon, with heavy rainfall and strong winds disrupting traffic and damaging vehicles and property across the city.

Tremors felt in parts of Maharashtra
Adding to the disruption, tremors struck central Maharashtra's Nanded, Hingoli, and Parbhani districts in the early hours of Thursday.
Several houses were damaged after four tremors jolted the three districts, officials said, adding that no injuries were reported.
At least 105 houses were damaged in the Hingoli district.
According to officials, tremors measuring between 3.6 and 4.6 on the Richter scale were recorded between 1:37 am and 3:23 am. The epicentre was located near Shirli Village in Vasmat taluka of Hingoli district.
