The woman whose boyfriend, the son of a senior bureaucrat in Maharashtra, and his accomplices allegedly attempted to run her over with his car has claimed that the main accused kept her in dark about the fact that he was already married when they entered into a relationship.

"I had a four-and-a-half-year relationship with my boyfriend. We were completely in love with each other. I did not know earlier that he was married. Later, when I came to know he told me that they (his wife & him) were not together anymore, they had separated. He said that he wanted to marry me. I was staying with him for a long time," the 26-year-old victim, Priya Singh, told news agency ANI.

She said the alleged attack left her with three broken bones in her right leg and several other injuries. Priya claimed that he and the main accused, identified as Ashwajit Gaikwad, had a fight when she found him in the presence of his wife and kids. According to Priya, the duo subsequently had a fight, which, she said, led to the incident.

"When I went to meet him that night, he was with his wife. I was in shock when I went to talk to him, he got aggressive. We had a fight. Three bones in my right leg are broken, it has been operated on. From my left shoulder to my hips I've deep injuries...I cannot move my body. Four days ago I went to file an FIR, the day all this happened. But no action was taken. Today, when I posted on the social media, the police have supported me today," the victim stated.

Accoding to the police, the incident took place at 04.30 am on December 11 near a hotel on Thane's Ghodbunder Road. The victim has alleged that the police did not register a case against the accused when she first approached them and acted only after she shared her ordeal on social media.

Reacting to the case, Maharashtra minister Sudhir Mungantiwar said, "Whether it is an officer's son or some big leader's son, he will have to bear the whip of the law and Constitution. No matter who it is, if they have committed this crime, then they would be punished." The police have invoked sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 279 (rash driving), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), amongst others, against Ashwajit and two of his accomplices.
