West Bengal politics saw another sharp exchange on Monday, with Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee making it clear that she has no plans to step away from active politics.

In a Facebook Live, the former chief minister said: "I am not taking political 'sanyas' (retirement)." She said she would not remain silent and would work to push the BJP into “political darkness.”

Mamata Targets Bengal Government

Mamata Banerjee claimed that people in West Bengal had begun to understand the BJP government's “real face” within four months of the change in power.

She also criticised the government over the Annapurna Bhandar scheme, alleging delays in financial assistance to women and claiming that the number of beneficiaries was being reduced by citing ineligibility.

“We had launched Lakshmir Bhandar to make women financially self-sufficient, but the BJP is considering religion and race to provide Annapurna Bhandar money. It is violating its pre-poll promise of providing Annapurna Yojana money to all women, and is now cheating them,” the former chief minister alleged.

Raises Concerns Over Census, NRC

The TMC chief also raised objections to the ongoing census exercise, alleging that it could be an attempt to introduce the National Register of Citizens (NRC) through the back door.

She urged people to exercise caution before filling out census forms or sharing personal information, claiming that the process could have implications beyond the census itself.

Banerjee also alleged that the names of lakhs of eligible voters had been wrongly removed from electoral rolls during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.

Jadavpur University Row

Towards the end of the Facebook Live, Mamata addressed the controversy at Jadavpur University, where clashes took place between ABVP and Left-wing students.

She alleged that the BJP was behind the vandalism on the campus. Mamata added that while she may disagree with the political views of some students, she respects them.
