In a shocking case, a house helper in Bhopal had stolen at least Rs 94,000 in parts from a retired insurance agent's house in 20 days. The house owner had registered a case of cheating and theft when she switched off her mobile phone and disappeared. When caught red-handed, the accused, identified as Sanjana Kushwaha, pleaded for forgiveness, claiming that a police case would ruin her future.
How Did She Steal Money
Sanjana worked as a house help at Sobodh Kumar's (61) house at Vaishali Apartments in Surendra Palace. Complainant Kumar claimed to have kept a bag containing a sum of Rs 1.29 lakh near the wardrobe. Sanjana stole the cash in smaller parts between February 26 and March 17.
After some days, Kumar's wife caught him red-handed while she was taking money from the bag. Sanjana, admitting her fault, pleaded with the couple for forgiveness, saying, "If a police complaint is filed, my future will be completely ruined." She promised to return the money too.
On March 25, Sanjana returned Rs 5000 as the instalment. The accused house help then messaged Subodh Kumar on WhatsApp and reiterated her promise to return the money. However, she kept making excuses regarding the repayment of the remaining Rs 89,000. The situation turned worse when she stopped answering calls from the aggrieved family and switched off her mobile phone completely.
Complaint Registered
The couple tried to contact her, but her mobile phone remained switched off. Having no other alternatives left, the couple filed a complaint at the Bagsevania police station. They presented the WhatsApp chats as evidence against the accused.
