Jagran Correspondent | Bhopal: The Bagsewania police have registered a complaint against two nurses after a three-year-old child died of negligence during treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhopal. The police said that the child died after he was injected with formalin. The police have registered a case of negligence against one of the nurses and the other for the unsafe storage of a hazarduous chemical.
The deceased is identified as Sarthak Yadav and was a resident of Korja village in the Bina area of the Sagar district. He was admitted to Pediatric Ward 2 at AIIMS Bhopal on December 15, 2025, following complaints of fever. He was suffering from B-ALL (B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia).
How Did The Mishap Happen?
Sarthak was scheduled to undergo a bone marrow aspiration and biopsy on December 16, 2025. However, the required medicines were not available. Nurse Anuka Gujarati bought a formalin syringe weighing 10 ml from a medical shop. Even after the procedure was postponed, the syringe was left on the locker near the patient's bed.
Who Is To Blame?
The next morning, at around 7.15 am, Sarthak's IV line became blocked. Nursing Officer Madhubala Sharma, without checking the labels on the syringe, injected it into the child's body. Even after the child's father, Siddharth Yadav, repeatedly warned her that the syringe did not contain the IV flush. However, Sharma ignored his warnings.
The child lost consciousness immediately after the formalin was injected into his body. He was then admitted to the PICU for emergency treatment. Despite this, he died at 8.45 am.
Following the death, AIIMS informed the Bina police station, and an investigation was launched into the case. During the inquiry, the police discovered that the death was caused due to medical negligence. Subsequently, the case file was transferred to the Bagsewania police station in Bhopal on March 20, and the Bagsewania police registered a case on Thursday. Go
