MP Rajya Sabha Polls: The politics of Madhya Pradesh has turned dramatic after the BJP fielded a candidate for the third Rajya Sabha seat, despite lacking the required numerical strength. Amid the allegations of horse-trading, BJP State President Hemant Khandelwal stated that the ruling party would welcome anyone voting as per their conscience. Jitu Patwari, Congress chief in Madhya Pradesh, has accused the BJP of engaging in money-driven politics. However, he expressed confidence that the party MLAs will vote for the candidates of Congress.
While reacting to the BJP's latest move, Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar stated that the ruling party has fielded a third candidate despite lacking the required numbers. The Congress senior leader further alleged that the saffron party wants to influence the legislators of the opposition party by using money and threatening them. He further stated that the BJP is trying to strangle democracy, asserting that the Congress MLAs will not be influenced.

While responding to his allegations, Hemant Khandelwal stated that the BJP is not in contact with any Congress leader; however, the party would welcome anyone who votes as per their conscience. The BJP leader further stated that while the ruling party is contesting the polls unitedly, the Congress lacks clarity and vision. Earlier, Mahesh Kevat resigned as the chairman of the Fishermen's Welfare Board after being named a candidate for the Rajya Sabha polls.
As per the Election Commission, BJP candidate Mahesh Kevat possesses immovable assets worth Rs 2.53 crore, comprising residential property and agricultural land. He holds movable assets worth Rs 20.70 lakh, including Rs 1.60 lakh in cash, a four-wheeler, and 26 grams of gold.

Congress candidate Meenakshi Natarajan owns neither agricultural land nor commercial or residential buildings. Natarajan owns a Tiago car purchased in 2021, which is currently valued at three lakh rupees. While the BJP has 164 MLAs in Madhya Pradesh, the Congress has 61 legislators.
