Mumbai CNG Price Hike: Amid the ongoing energy crisis, the CNG price in Mumbai was increased by Rs 2 on Saturday by the state-run gas distributor Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL). The CNG, following the latest revision, will be priced at Rs 86 per kg across the urban regions, including Mumbai, Thane, and Navi Mumbai. This marks the second such hike in recent times, as the CNG price in Mumbai was hiked by Rs 2 on May 14 as well. The fuel prices have witnessed a hike in the past month due to the energy crisis amid the prolonged war between Iran and the US.
With the latest hike in the CNG price, the transportation cost is also likely to increase in Mumbai and the nearby regions. However, despite two hikes in the recent days, CNG still remains affordable in comparison to petrol and diesel. Earlier on Monday, petrol and diesel prices were increased across the nation due to the ongoing crisis.
While the price of petrol was increased by Rs 2.61 per litre, the diesel price was hiked by Rs 2.71 per litre. The movement of ships through the Strait of Hormuz has been disrupted due to the war, leading to energy crisis throughout the world.
The centre has assured that there is no shortage of fuel and advised the consumers to avoid the rumours. However, panic buying was recorded in several cities after the fuel prices were increased by the government. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also advised the residents to minimise the use of oil and limit their foreign travels.
Auto unions have reportedly started demanding at least a Rs 1 increase in base fares. According to reports, the demand was made citing rising operating costs, as the union says that rising costs have made it difficult for them to earn a decent living operating their auto-rickshaws at the current fares.
