Mumbai Monsoon: Heavy rains lashed Mumbai and its suburbs on Saturday prompting a fresh red alert from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for Sunday. Monsoon showers have been battering the city over the last few days, causing instances of landslides, waterlogging and severe traffic jams.
Several parts of Mumbai received over 150 mm of rain during the last 24 hours. On Saturday, Vikhroli West topped the rainfall charts, recording the highest rainfall of 246.6 mm, between 8 am and 6 pm. Meanwhile, a landslide hit a construction site in Bhandup, engulfing a truck and several trees.
Mumbai Weather: Red Alert For Heavy Rain Today
The IMD has put Mumbai on a red alert for rain on Sunday. The weather body has issued an alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall. Following this, the BMC has advised residents to only leave their homes if absolutely necessary.
IMD has also issued a rain alert for several Maharashtra districts, including Thane and Palghar for Sunday. According to the IMD, heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is expected in Palghar district on July 5. A red alert for heavy rainfall has also been issued for some areas.
Truck Buried During Landslide
A massive landslide at an excavation site on LBS Marg on Saturday afternoon swept away a truck and some trees. No one was injured in the incident. According to officials, the approximately 100-foot-long landslide occurred around 2:40 pm in front of Asian Paints in Bhandup West.
Two Injured After House Collapses In Govandi
Following a ground-floor house collapse in Govandi, a man and a woman were admitted to Rajawadi Hospital with minor injuries. Eight other incidents of house/wall collapses were reported in the city and surrounding areas on Saturday. A tree uprooted and fell on the Minatai flower market.
Mumbai Traffic Update
Waterlogging was reported in eastern suburbs such as Saki Naka, Kurla-Kajupada Road, Ashok Nagar, Chheda Nagar Junction, Powai and Bhandup, as well as western suburbs such as Andheri, Vile Parle, Santacruz and Dahisar.

Railway Services Affected
Western Railway services were delayed by 20 to 25 minutes due to waterlogging on railway tracks in Nalasopara and Vasai, while Central Railway services continued to operate smoothly. Mumbai Metro Line 2A services were partially disrupted due to a fault in an overhead wire. BEST bus services were diverted at approximately six locations due to waterlogging on roads.
