In a shocking robbery case from Nagpur, two minor boys allegedly stole luxury designer taps worth Rs 6.5 lakh from a warehouse to buy iPhones for their girlfriends. The stolen items were later sold to a local scrap dealer for just Rs 20,000, police said.
During questioning, the two minors reportedly confessed to carrying out the theft, claiming they were in urgent need of money. According to police, the boys targeted a warehouse and made away with expensive sanitary ware in an attempt to raise funds.
The case came to light after Rahul Jaychand Batra, owner of Rahul Ceramics Private Limited, a warehouse dealing in tiles, sanitary ware, and CP fittings, filed a complaint with the police, NDTV reported.
According to Batra, unidentified thieves gained entry into the warehouse on the intervening night of May 27 and May 28 by removing tin sheets from the roof. The accused allegedly stole luxury sanitary products worth approximately Rs 6.5 lakh.
The stolen items included:
- Five taps with gold-tone designs worth Rs 3,94,500
- Three standard gold-coloured taps worth Rs 67,000
- Nine rose gold-coloured taps worth Rs 1,30,500
- Four silver-coloured taps worth Rs 58,000
Following the complaint, a special police team launched an investigation. Officers examined footage from 20 to 35 CCTV cameras installed at and around the warehouse and also relied on local intelligence to track down the suspects.
Based on the leads gathered, police officials laid a trap and detained the suspects within 12 hours of the complaint being filed.
During interrogation, the two minors allegedly admitted that they had sold the stolen luxury taps to a scrap dealer for Rs 20,000.
Police also arrested 38-year-old Irfan Ali alias Immu Ramzan Ali, who allegedly purchased the stolen goods. He has been named as the prime accused in the case.
