New Year 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday extended new year greetings to the citizens of the country and prayed for peace and happiness in the society.
"Wishing everyone a wonderful 2026! May the year ahead bring good health and prosperity, with success in your efforts and fulfilment in all that you do," the prime minister said in a post on X. "Praying for peace and happiness in our society," the prime minister said.
India welcomed the New Year 2026 with much enthusiasm and celebrations across the country. From destination parties to house gatherings, Indians rang in the new year in their own unique ways. Extensive security arrangements were in place as revellers stepped out to mark the occasion and embrace new beginnings.
Tourist destinations across India came alive with festive crowds, vibrant city streets, and bustling pilgrimage centres. Travellers flocked to hill stations, coastal towns, and heritage sites to celebrate the arrival of 2026.
In Delhi, Connaught Place and Vasant Vihar witnessed a steady influx of revellers, as families and groups gathered in markets and open spaces ahead of the New Year.
The winter hills remained among the most sought-after destinations, with Manali, Shimla, and Mussoorie reporting heavy tourist traffic. Roads leading to Manali and the Kullu valley saw continuous movement as visitors arrived to enjoy the cold weather and scenic slopes.
