The impasse over moving international flights from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) to the new Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) has ended, with Air India Group and IndiGo agreeing to shift operations to the new facility.
Air India will commence operations at NMIA in December 2026, while IndiGo will start in February 2027. Airport operator Adani Airport Holdings Ltd. (AAHL) stated that moving an initial 3 million passengers is part of a first-phase plan to shift 5 million travellers to NMIA. This will free up operational capacity required for a phased redevelopment, modernisation, and security upgrade of CSMIA's Terminal 1.

Which Air India And Air India Express Flights Are Shifting To NMIA?
According to a joint statement issued by the airline and AAHL, Air India Group will move some of its West Asian services to NMIA in stages. Air India Express will launch four daily domestic flights in December 2026, followed by new services to Kuwait and existing flights to Oman in January 2027.
The group will gradually shift remaining Air India Express routes to Jeddah, Riyadh, Dammam, Doha, Muscat, and Sharjah to NMIA. The full transfer is scheduled for completion by the IATA Northern Summer 2027 season. Airline officials stated the move helps establish a dual-airport system in Mumbai while preserving its slot rights at CSMIA.
IndiGo To Move 12 Daily International Flights
IndiGo said it will shift 12 daily international flights from CSMIA to NMIA between February and July 2027. The move covers all flights currently operating from CSMIA to 11 destinations, including Bahrain, Riyadh, Dammam, Jeddah, Medina, Kuwait, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Muscat, Dhaka, and Jakarta, alongside a new daily service to Kathmandu. To support international operations, IndiGo will also move domestic flights to NMIA, providing smooth onward passenger transfers.
