Jagran State Bureau, Patna | The Special Vigilance Unit (SVU) raided six locations of Rajendra Kumar, the Superintendent Engineer of the Small Water Resources Department in Saran, Bihar, on charges of possessing assets disproportionate to his income on Friday. The raids in Patna, Mumbai, Chapra, and Gopalganj revealed land and flats worth approximately Rs 4 crore.
These immovable properties were purchased in the names of the engineer's mother, Sunaina Devi, and wife, Kanchan Kumari. During the search, Rs 196,000 in cash and bills related to the purchase of gold and silver jewellery, a car, and expensive items worth Rs 76 lakh were recovered.

The residence of the engineer's sister Seema Kumari in the SBI Officer Quarters in Goregaon West, Mumbai was also searched. According to the SVU, Rajendra Kumar joined government service in 2008. Prima facie, the engineer has been found to have assets worth Rs 3.1 crore, which is much more than his government salary and other legitimate sources of income.
Bank Accounts Of Kin Used To Deposit Illegal Money
It is alleged that an attempt was made to show the illegally earned money as legitimate by transferring it through the bank accounts of his sister, brother-in-law and mother and with this, immovable properties were purchased in Patna, Bindol of Bikram, Nawada and Mumbai.
The probe agency has also obtained information about six SBI accounts in the names of Rajendra Kumar, his wife Kanchan Kumari, and mother Sunaina Devi, as well as accounts in other banks. It is suspected that large sums of money are deposited in these accounts.
The search of the residence in Mahavir Colony in Beur, Patna, continued until late in the evening. According to the SVU, further documents related to movable and immovable properties are likely to be found.
Land Worth Rs 1.61 Crore In Panvel, Flat In Mumbai
Ten plots of land have been identified in the name of the engineer's mother, Sunaina Devi. These include seven plots under the Muhammadpur police station in Sidhavaliya, Gopalganj, a plot in Chitkohra, Patna, a two-story house in Beur, and 75 decimals of land purchased in Panvel, near Mumbai, at a cost of Rs 1.61 crore.
The properties include a flat in the Dreamwood Society in Nerul, Mumbai, and two plots of land in Bikram's Bindol, in the name of his wife, Kanchan Kumari. Two plots of land in Nawada, jointly owned by Kanchan and Prince, have also been recovered.
During the search, documents related to a plot worth about Rs 18 lakh in Sonpur and a receipt for payment of Rs 39 lakh for the purchase of another plot were also found.
