Bihar MLC Election Results: The results of the Bihar MLC election were announced on Wednesday, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerging as the single largest party. While the BJP registered victory on three of the total eight seats, its key alliance partner JDU could only win one seat. The major opposition party RJD also managed to win a seat by defeating BJP in its stronghold. The Prashant Kishor-led Jan Suraaj also opened its account a year after facing humiliating defeat in the assembly polls in 2025.

BJP Maintains Dominance

The saffron party, under the leadership of Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, registered victories in Darbhanga Graduates', Tirhut Teachers', and Kosi Graduates' constituencies. However, the party lost the Patna Teachers' constituency to RJD, a seat it had dominated for decades. Apart from this, the victory of two independent candidates could also force the party to rethink its strategy in these polls.

JDU Faces Setback

While JDU successfully retained the Patna Graduates' seat, the infighting between candidate Neeraj Kumar and party MLA and strongman Anant Singh stole the limelight. With veteran Nitish Kumar's exit from active politics, the party is dealing with a possible leadership crisis. Nitish Kumar's son Nishant has been projected, but his strategy-making is yet to be tested.

RJD Wins, Questions On Unity

While the Tejashwi Yadav-led party registered an impressive victory in the Patna Teachers' constituency, it could not replicate such a performance on any other seat. Apart from this, the INDIA Bloc allies, including Congress and left forces, contested the polls separately, raising questions on the opposition's unity.

Jan Suraaj Opens Account

Jan Suraaj, after registering a massive victory in the Bankipur bypoll, opened his account in the MLC polls by winning the Darbhanga Teachers' seat. The back-to-back victories, that too after not being able to win even a single seat in the assembly polls, have boosted the morale of founder Prashant Kishor and the party workers. However, victory on a single seat is unlikely to establish JSP as a major force in the politics of Bihar.
