The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday announced that it would launch a march led by family members of the 1984 Sikh riot victims on November 1 to counter the INDIA bloc's scheduled rally at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi on Sunday, against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR).

According to media reports, around 5,000 people, including families of the victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, will participate in the agitation, which is scheduled to begin in Delhi's Hari Nagar at 11 am on Sunday. Union Minister Sardar Hardeep Singh Puri and Delhi BJP chief Harsh Malhotra will lead the protest march in the national capital.

Sikh Community Wants An Apology From Congress: BJP

In a social media post, the Delhi BJP attacked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who is set to lead the November 1 anti-ECI rally, saying an attempt is being made to re-launch him again.

"On 1 November, BJP workers will join a symbolic protest march in Hari Nagar, West Delhi, alongside institutions of the Sikh community," the Delhi unit of the BJP said in a note.

The Sikh community of the country wants that before Congress re-launches Rahul Gandhi on 1 November 2026, it should apologise for the massacre of innocent Sikhs carried out by Congress workers on 1 November 1984, it said.

Questioning the date of the Ramlila Maidan rally, the BJP stated that it was regrettable that by choosing 1 November to re-launch its failed leader, Congress has hurt the sentiments of the country's Sikh community. At the same time, it has no regard for the losses to the business of Delhi's traders or the troubles faced by citizens due to increased pollution, the saffron party added.

At the request of Sikh families, community, and institutions of Delhi affected by the Sikh massacre carried out by Congress in 1984, Delhi BJP has decided to organise a symbolic protest march on 1 November in Hari Nagar, a Sikh-majority area of West Delhi, against Congress's insensitivity, along with thousands of Sikh citizens and BJP workers, the statement read.
