BRICS Summit 2026 Highlights: PM Modi Extends Best Wishes To China For 2027 Chairship, Calls For 'Concrete Results'

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Sunday departed from Delhi after attending the BRICS Summit 2026. 

President of the Philippines, Ferdinand R. Marcos, departs from Delhi after attending the BRICS Summit 2026 held at Bharat Mandapam on September 12 and 13. 

China was represented by Foreign Minister Wang Yi at the BRICS Gala Dinner hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last night, news agency ANI reported, citing sources.

When asked about his bilateral meeting with PM Modi, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said, "In our bilateral with PM, we reflected on the relationship between South Africa and did say that it is a special and strategic relationship...I promptly invited him to come to South Africa next year so that we can together celebrate the strategic partnership between South Africa and India and to come, if possible, on Nelson Mandela's birth anniversary. So that we can celebrate the great man. We also spoke about the Gandhi-Mandela scholarship. We want to do more around these two great leaders. We touched on trade issues, investment issues and how we can deepen our relationship at an economic level. We congratulated India for its space exploration activities. In the developing economic world, India - apart from China - is ensuring the leadership. We can see that the two countries are giving great leadership also in a number of areas. Technologically, we can see that India is moving ahead...There is a lot that we can learn from them. It was a really good bilateral..."

In the last three days, on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit, PM Narendra Modi has held 15 sit-down bilateral meetings with Heads of State/Heads of Govt. This is in addition to pull-aside meetings with various world leaders and leaders of international institutions, news agency ANI reported. 

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa on Sunday said, "In this BRICS Summit, we were able to adopt a declaration when many thought that we would not succeed in adopting a declaration. We did. In that regard, we congratulate all BRICS members, but also especially India for hosting a very successful BRICS Summit. Everything was so well-arranged; they were able to lead us in holding 350 meetings or so in 30 cities. That takes a lot of doing by any host of a huge Summit like this."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday congratulated China for hosting the next BRICS summit, stating the world now expects "concrete results" from BRICS.

"I once again extend my best wishes to China as the next host of BRICS. I especially commend all of you and your teams for making the New Delhi Summit a success. I wish you all a pleasant and safe journey," he said, according to news agency ANI.

A press release by AYUSH ministry reads, "The New Delhi Declaration adopted at the 18th BRICS Summit has given a significant push to international cooperation in Traditional, Complementary and Integrative Medicine (TCIM), recognising its growing relevance to strengthening health systems and contributing towards Universal Health Coverage (UHC)."

Sharing a post on X, Malaysian PM, Anwar Ibrahim said, "Had the opportunity once again to meet my good friend, who is also the Leader of the Opposition in the Indian Parliament, Rahul Gandhi, this morning over breakfast."

Following the recent high-level bilateral meeting between the Prime Ministers of India and Vietnam on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh held a meeting with the Deputy Minister of National Defence of Vietnam, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Truong Thang in Delhi.

The meeting focused on strengthening the bonds of friendship, advancing regional security, and deepening the bilateral Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The discussions centered on accelerating joint initiatives, technology sharing and defence industrial collaboration. The two sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to expanding maritime and defence ties to ensure a peaceful, stable, and rule-based regional security architecture: Ministry of Defence

On Day 2 of the BRICS Summit 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi says, "The BRICS Logistic Supply Chain Cooperation Framework will help make our supply chains more reliable and resilient. Under the umbrella of innovation, the BRICS Incubator Network will connect our startups and incubators. We have proposed the BRICS Startup Innovation Fund to promote innovative and scalable solutions. The BRICS Network on Digital Agriculture will create new opportunities for farmers; through this initiative, AI, geospatial technology, and digital public infrastructure will be aligned with the actual needs of farmers. The weaponization of technology and critical minerals could hinder our shared progress; therefore, we have emphasized inclusivity in the adoption of technology."
