In a shocking incident, the Chandigarh police control room received messages of bomb threats targeting six schools in the city during the early hours of Monday. Police and security agencies were alerted immediately after receiving the information. Security checks have been initiated on the relevant school campuses.

The messages named six schools, including Air Force School Sector-31, St. Soldier International School Sector-28, DAV Model School Sector-15, St. Stephen's School Sector-45 and Ajit School Sector-41 and 45. Apart from this, it is also alleged that the police received a threat message regarding Ankur School located on the Punjabi University campus.

What did the police do?

Upon receiving information, police teams arrived at the schools and tightened security arrangements in all campuses. School premises and surrounding areas are being searched. Bomb squads and other security agencies have also been alerted. Bomb disposal squads and other security agencies have also been alerted and deployed for necessary checks.

At present, it remains unclear how the threat was sent or the identity of the sender. Police are investigating the source and technical details of the message. The discovery of any suspicious objects at the schools has not yet been confirmed.

Previous Threats

In January, this year,  26 schools in Chandigarh had received emails threatening possible bomb attacks, prompting the evacuation of students. Following this, schools had been advised not to declare holidays without any verification, as such actions may lead to avoidable panic among students, parents and the general public, it further said.

In Gurugram, more than six private schools in Gurugram also received bomb threat emails. Several government and private schools in sectors 26, 19, 45, 16 and other areas received the threat emails, following which students and staff were evacuated, and security was stepped up around the schools.
