Hours after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi called for a march to the Supreme Court over alleged "vote chori" on Monday, Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant has rejected the INDIA bloc leaders' request for a meeting, news agency PTI reported, citing sources.

The Leaders of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, had written to the CJI seeking a meeting between 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM on Monday to hand over a formal memorandum. Their demands include an immediate end to alleged "vote chori", the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, the halting of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), and a return to paper ballots.

According to CJI sources cited by PTI, the CJI's response denying the meeting request has been sent to their official email. However, further details were not disclosed.

Opposition Demands Judicial Intervention, Cites Widespread Chaos

Speaking in Bengaluru, Kharge said that he and Gandhi had written to the CJI to seek his intervention on the issue of "vote chori", accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah of creating chaos across the country.

"We have sought a time between 4 and 5 pm. We will also apprise him, as we cannot demand. Only with folded hands, we can request him," Kharge said.

"With folded hands, we will apprise him of the situation. Chaos is being created in the country by the Home Minister and the Prime Minister, and everywhere an undeclared emergency is imposed," he added.

INDIA Bloc Calls For 'Chalo Delhi - March for Democracy'

Opposition parties have announced a protest march to the Supreme Court on Monday under the banner "Chalo Delhi - March for Democracy". Demonstrators are scheduled to assemble at 1:30 PM at the Connaught Place-Barakhamba Road junction before heading toward the top court.

Earlier on Friday, INDIA bloc leaders marched from Parliament to Vijay Chowk to submit a memorandum to President Droupadi Murmu.

In a post on X, Gandhi emphasised that the march would be by Indians united beyond parties, gender, caste, community and state.

"Yesterday, the nation's young came out in Delhi to peacefully protest. They came with love in their hearts, not hatred or anger. They were beaten, both by cops and BJP goons. This is not the India we want," Gandhi wrote.

"Tomorrow, we will march to the Supreme Court as Indians, united beyond party, gender, caste, community and state. Youth, all opposition parties, civil society groups, all those who believe in democracy and stand by the Constitution of India, will walk with us," he added.

CJP Vows To Intensify SIR; Over 200 Held On Day 2 Of Protests

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Sunday vowed to intensify its agitation against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, even as around 200 people were detained while protests were held at several places in the New Delhi area that remained under a security chokehold.

Supreme Court Issues Directions On Detentions And Metro Operations 

The Supreme Court on Sunday directed that people gathering peacefully should not be illegally detained and asked authorities to ensure that the Delhi Metro functions normally and there is no disruption to internet services, subject to law and order conditions.

In a special sitting, a bench of Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana also issued a notice to the Centre while hearing a plea seeking contempt proceedings for the alleged violation of the court's October 9 direction to ensure that there is no "complete prohibition" on metro and train services in Delhi due to the CJP protest.
