Following the implementation of GRAP-1 in Delhi, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced additional train services and stepped-up anti-pollution measures at its construction sites to help curb rising pollution levels in the capital.

From October 22, the DMRC will operate 20 additional metro trips on weekdays, from Monday to Friday, to encourage commuters to opt for public transport instead of private vehicles.

20 Additional Metro Trips From October 22

The DMRC will introduce 20 extra trips across its network on weekdays, starting October 22. The move aims to promote the use of public transport and reduce dependence on private vehicles amid rising pollution levels in Delhi.

Anti-Pollution Measures To Be Intensified At Construction Sites

The DMRC will also step up pollution-control measures at its construction sites and nearby areas. These efforts will focus on suppressing dust within construction zones, clearing road dust from adjoining roads and removing garbage from footpaths and road dividers.

DMRC engineers will conduct inspections to ensure construction materials are adequately covered and wheel-washing systems are working properly. These systems help clean the wheels of vehicles leaving construction sites and prevent dust and debris from spreading onto roads.

31 Km Of Roads Under DMRC's Temporary Jurisdiction

According to the DMRC, around 31 km of roads in Delhi currently fall under its temporary jurisdiction to facilitate ongoing metro construction work. Most of these roads have already been repaired to prevent them from becoming additional sources of dust pollution.

Over 250 Anti-Smog And Mist Guns Installed

The DMRC has installed more than 250 anti-smog guns and mist guns at construction sites, metro stations and office buildings to control dust and reduce pollution.

The corporation's Environment Department is also carrying out daily inspections to ensure compliance with environmental standards. These measures will supplement the pollution-control initiatives already being implemented by the DMRC.
