Delhi AQI Alert

The capital’s air quality is bracing for a downturn. According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi's 24-hour average Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 139 at 4 PM on Monday, placing it in the "moderate" category.

Of the 58 reporting monitoring stations, two recorded "poor" air quality, six were in the "satisfactory" category, while the remaining stations reported "moderate" levels. Pusa recorded the worst AQI in the city at 281.

According to forecasts from the Air Quality Early Warning System, Delhi's air quality will remain in the "moderate" category on October 19 and 20 before deteriorating into the "poor" category on October 21 and 22. The six-day outlook continues to indicate poor conditions.

Unfavorable meteorological conditions, specifically average wind speeds below 10 km/h and a low ventilation index under 6,000 square meters per second, are expected to hamper the dispersal of pollutants over the coming days.

Under CPCB standards, an AQI between 0 and 50 is classified as 'good', 51 to 100 as 'satisfactory', 101 to 200 as 'moderate', 201 to 300 as 'poor', 301 to 400 as 'very poor', and 401 to 500 as 'severe'.
