ECI-SIR Row: A day after the INDIA Bloc, under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, held a road march from parliament to the Election Commission, the Congress has asserted that it will continue its protest against the alleged poll rigging. Rahul, along with other senior leaders, including Priyanka Gandhi and KC Venugopal, staged a sit-in in the premises of the Akashwani Bhavan after being not allowed to proceed towards the EC. They were later detained in the evening hours, but the INDIA Bloc has clarified that the demonstration will continue in the coming days.

INDIA Bloc's Strategy

As per the reports, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has invited the opposition leaders for a lunch meeting today. The senior opposition leaders are likely to discuss the further strategy and sign a document seeking appointment with the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. The opposition leaders have been demanding clarifications from the CEC after an Indian Express report disclosed the alleged internal disagreements within the poll body.

Earlier in a post on X, the Congress stated that it will continue the protest until the resignation of Kumar and accountability from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "The Constitution and democracy are paramount. Until the Constitution and democracy are fully protected from every anti-people and anti-national force, our struggle will continue," Congress said in its post.

Oppn Likely To Meet Prez

The INDIA Bloc got a major boost after Biju Janata Dal (BJP), for the first time, joined the opposition's campaign. However, two crucial opposition parties- Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and DMK maintained distance from the demonstration, raising question on the unity of the opposition parties.

The INDIA Bloc has made a request for a meeting with President Draupadi Murmu, likely to be held in the second week of October. The senior leaders, such as Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Mamata Banerjee, Akhilesh Yadav, Sharad Pawar, Omar Abdullah, Tejashwi Yadav, MA Baby, and D Raja are likely to meet the president. Apart from this, the opposition has also booked Ramlila Maidan for a mega rally on November 1.
