Big Tech Layoffs: Ask anyone who has been affected by mass layoffs at Meta, Oracle, Microsoft, and other big companies, and they will tell you how difficult it is to deal with the uncertainty that follows. Losing a job suddenly can bring sleepless nights, financial worries and questions about what comes next.
For employees, a layoff is not just about losing a salary. It can affect mortgage payments, EMIs, children’s education and the overall stability of a family. Stories shared by employees on social media show how deeply such job losses can affect people, especially when they have little or no warning.
Inside 6 AM Emails From Oracle
“Got laid off from Oracle this morning. All access got locked then hour later the separation email came. Everyone knew layoffs were coming but I was completely shocked I was affected.”
A junior engineer with two years of experience at Oracle shared his layoff experience on Reddit. He said he had worked hard during his time at the company and had never received a bad rating from his manager. Yet, one morning, he received an email informing him that his employment had been terminated.
“I tried to make sense of why I was included but gave up on it as nothing made sense from whichever pov I looked. I thought I didn’t believe in luck but ironically that’s the only possible explanation for my situation,” he wrote.
His experience reflects what many employees have described during recent layoffs: years of work can suddenly come to an end with little explanation.
At the same time, major tech companies are investing heavily in artificial intelligence and automation. For employees, this has raised concerns about how secure their jobs will be as companies look for ways to reduce costs and improve efficiency.

Microsoft’s 4,800 Job Cuts
Microsoft’s layoffs on July 6, 2026, were another major blow for employees. Around 4,800 workers were affected as part of the company’s restructuring plans.
One software engineer, who had spent three years at Microsoft, shared what happened during the layoff call.
“During the call, my manager mentioned that because I’m still relatively young and he assumed I didn’t have major responsibilities yet, my name was included in the headcount reduction,” the employee said.
The employee was the sole earner in the family and was responsible for his sister’s education as well as EMIs. Losing the job suddenly left him dealing with financial uncertainty and no clear idea of what would happen next.
For employees in such situations, a layoff does not simply mean finding another job. It can put immediate pressure on the entire family.

Zuckerberg’s Meta Layoffs
Meta’s layoffs have also left employees sharing similar experiences online. Some employees have described receiving termination emails early in the morning, followed by the sudden loss of access to their work accounts.
One employee wrote about checking their personal Gmail account and finding an email saying their role had been terminated.
“I checked my personal gmail and there it was - unfortunately your role was terminated. I tried to be hopeful and recall what my colleague had mentioned about his situation where he could reinterview internally. But when i read through, it became definitely clear that it was a termination.”
For employees who have spent years building products and working long hours, such a message can be difficult to process. The sudden nature of these layoffs has also left many questioning how companies decide who stays and who goes.
The stories coming out of Meta, Oracle, Microsoft and other tech companies show that mass layoffs have consequences far beyond the workplace. For employees, the biggest challenge often begins after the email arrives: dealing with bills, family responsibilities and the uncertainty of finding another job.
