Ghaziabad commuters are set to get relief from traffic congestion as a 1.5-kilometre stretch from Seth Mukundlal Chowk via Thakurdwara Tiraha to MMG Hospital is being redeveloped to improve traffic movement. As part of the redevelopment, several measures will be introduced to streamline traffic and reduce conflict points between vehicles. These include new U-turns, slip roads, road widening and improved pedestrian infrastructure.
The move comes as a large number of vehicles and pedestrians pass through Seth Mukundlal Chowk, Thakurdwara Tiraha and the area around MMG Hospital every day. With the route being systematically redeveloped, traffic management is expected to improve and congestion to decrease.
According to Jagran.com, the project has an estimated cost of Rs 9.78 crore. On Saturday, Ghaziabad city MLA Sanjeev Sharma laid the foundation stone for the project prepared by the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA).
U-Turns to Improve Traffic Flow
According to reports, both back-to-back and single U-turns will be developed at strategic locations along the stretch. These will allow motorists to make turns more safely while reducing interruptions to traffic moving along the main road.
A back-to-back U-turn will be constructed around 200 metres ahead of Seth Mukundlal Chowk. Another single U-turn will facilitate access to Navayug Market, while an additional U-turn will be developed near Delhi Gate.
The plan also includes the construction of a 12-metre-wide slip road to help streamline traffic movement and reduce congestion at busy points.
Roads, Footpaths and Green Belt to Be Upgraded
The redevelopment will also involve widening the existing roads and constructing modern footpaths for pedestrians. The green belt along the route will be beautified as part of the project.
Slip roads will be developed wherever required, while modern streetlights will be installed along the stretch. Clear road markings will also be provided to improve lane discipline and traffic management.
Table-top speed breakers will be constructed at identified locations to help control vehicle speeds and improve safety for motorists and pedestrians.
