State Bureau, Gandhinagar: Over 24 workers were trapped under the debris after a crane collapsed along with a portion of an under-construction building, 'Bosky The Empire,' in the Kudasan area of Gandhinagar on Wednesday evening. Around 15-17 workers were rescued so far, while 10 are still feared trapped. The injured have been admitted to Gandhinagar Civil Hospital for treatment, while Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi is at the site monitoring the rescue operation.
The incident took place near Reliance Chowkdi in Kudasan, between Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad, where construction work was underway at the building. Fire brigade and rescue teams have been rushed to the spot and are carrying out operations to clear the debris and rescue those still trapped.
Locals said they rushed to the spot after hearing the loud sound of the crane collapsing and joined the initial rescue efforts. Emergency services and local authorities have been deployed at the site, while the injured are being shifted to nearby hospitals.
What happened?
According to preliminary information, a large crane at the construction site suddenly collapsed, bringing down a slab along with iron reinforcement rods and trapping several workers who were working underneath. The debris fell onto more than two dozen workers, leaving several of them trapped.
The exact cause of the incident is not yet known.
Soon after the incident was reported, multiple fire brigade and rescue teams reached the site and launched a large-scale operation to locate and evacuate those trapped beneath the rubble. Rescue staff are using gas cutters and heavy machinery to cut through the collapsed iron structure and clear the debris.
Around 10 rescued workers have been shifted to Gandhinagar Civil Hospital for treatment. Health Minister Praful Pansheriya has reached the hospital and is monitoring the medical arrangements for the injured.
Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi has also reached the site and is overseeing the rescue and relief operations. Visuals from the location showed Sanghavi inspecting the site as emergency teams continued their efforts to reach workers trapped under the debris.
There is no information so far about any fatalities. Rescue operations remain underway, and further details are awaited.
All available doctors have been called to the hospital, while a large number of medical and nursing staff are engaged in providing treatment and care to the rescued workers.
The incident comes days after the collapse of a five-storey building housing a paying guest accommodation in Satya Niketan in south west delhi where seven people were killed.
