Jagan-Sharmial Feud: Former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy's son, YSRCP president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and daughter, Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) chief YS Sharmila, once again made news for the wrong reason. The fresh dispute between the brother and sister emerged over the marriage venue. HT, quoting sources, reported that Jagan has declined Sharmila's request to hold her daughter's wedding function at the Yelahanka Palace compound in Bengaluru.

The marriage is scheduled for November. The Yelahanka Palace is a sprawling family estate, belonging to the Reddy family. The development emerged amid the property disputes between the siblings.

Media reports suggested that Jagan claimed that the palace is registered in the name of his wife, Bharati Reddy. However, their mother, YS Vijayamma, is attempting to persuade Jagan to allow the wedding function at the palace.

How Siblings' Relationship Soured

Their father, Rajasekhara Reddy, had served as Chief Minister of undivided Andhra between 2004 and 2009. He passed away in a chopper crash in 2009 while serving as the CM. His son and daughter carried forward his political legacy in Andhra Pradesh.

Things went well between the siblings till Jagan became chief minister in 2019. Before 2019, both were working hard to build a new party, YSRCP, founded in 2009 after their father's departure. In fact, Sharmila took charge of the YSRCP when Jagan was jailed in 2012-13. She also held a foot march and made an emotional appeal to the public, referring to works done by her late father. She also campaigned for her brother before the 2019 polls. But soon after coming to power, they developed disagreements over property sharing. Rajasekhar Reddy reportedly wanted them to receive equal shares in the properties, but it did not go as per his wish. His death left the division of the family’s assets unresolved, leading to legal disputes.

With the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) intervention, Jagran had agreed to a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Sharmila on August 31, 2019, but later he refused. Now, the property-related matters are in court, and both have become political rivals; she has joined the Congress. Bharathi Cements, Sakshi Media (Prominent Telugu media house, encompassing newspaper and television channels), Yelahanka Property (Bengaluru), are top disputed properties in the Reddy family.
