State Bureau, Srinagar: Security forces averted a major attack in South Kashmir's Shopian district on Sunday after detecting and neutralising an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in the Awneera area. The explosive was discovered during a search operation, and no casualties or injuries were reported.

Security Forces Cordon Off Area

During a search operation in Awneera, security personnel spotted a suspicious object on the roadside and immediately secured the area. To prevent potential danger to civilians, authorities cordoned off the area and restricted public movement.

Bomb Squad Neutralises IED

After confirming the object was an IED, a bomb disposal squad was summoned to the scene. Working alongside local police and other security personnel, experts safely defused the IED. Officials confirmed that standard safety protocols were followed throughout the operation to prevent injuries or damage to nearby infrastructure.

Police Launch Investigation

A senior police officer confirmed the recovery and safe disposal of the device, stating that an investigation is underway to trace its origin and identify those involved.

Following the incident, security agencies across the district have been placed on high alert, with heightened vigilance maintained in Awneera and surrounding sectors.

Security Heightened After JeM, LeT Terror Modules Intensify Activity Near LoC

Meanwhile, in a separate development, security surveillance has been intensified across parts of Jammu and Kashmir following reports that the Pakistan Army's Special Services Group (SSG) is training approximately 50 to 60 Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists along the Line of Control (LoC). The Rajouri-Poonch, Gurez-Tangdhar, Uri, and Keran sectors remain vulnerable to infiltration. Security sources indicate that Jaish and Lashkar terrorists are undergoing a three-month training program alongside Pakistan Army SSG commandos.

As terrorist activities near the Uri and Keran sectors intensify, Indian officials fear potential attacks by Pakistan's Border Action Team (BAT) on the Line of Control, though officials have not confirmed this yet.
