The Delhi Police on Monday said that they have registered an FIR against Congress Lok Sabha MP and JNU Professor Angomcha Bimol Akoijam after 11 female students alleged sexual harassment. The case was registered at Vasant Kunj North Police Station on the complaint of the Chief Security Officer of the university.
The police said that a case was filed against Akoijam on October 11 under Sections 75, 75(1)(i), 75(1)(iv) and 79 of the BNS and an investigation was underway.
The development comes days after Akoijam was terminated by the university over alleged sexual harassment on the recommendation of the Internal Committee for 'major punishment'.
The matter has also taken a political turn as the BJP's Mahila Mocha has announced a protest march on Monday against Congress over what it called the 'political patronage' extended to Akoijam.

The BJP said that it would hold a 'Nari Shakti Hunkar Andolan' from the Andhra Education Society School at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg to the Congress headquarters at Indira Bhawan. The party will hold a demonstration thereafter.
According to the university, an internal committee investigated allegations of sexual harassment against Professor Akoijam. After the panel's recommendation, the university decided to dismiss him from service with immediate effect.
Professor Akoijam has denied the allegations against him. He has targeted the accusers and campaigners, saying that attempts are being made to damage his reputation.
Calling the allegations against him a 'witch hunt' while addressing the media, Akoijam questioned the procedure followed by JNU in dismissing him. He added that he would challenge the decision through legal and political means.
He cited Regulation 8 of JNU's rules, which provide a 30-day timeframe to the parties concerned to appeal against the findings and recommendations, adding that he was dismissed on October 9, the same day the committee made recommendations.
Akoijam further stated that he had not received the inquiry report, without which he could not exercise his right to challenge the findings.
