Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway Traffic Diversion: Commuters travelling on the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway have been advised to plan their journeys accordingly, as traffic restrictions will remain in place until September 25. The restrictions were imposed after a 10-metre section of the elevated expressway near Banthra was damaged on September 13.

Traffic heading towards Lucknow is being diverted from Bani. Vehicles travelling from Bani towards Lucknow are being routed via the Kanpur-Lucknow Highway. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has implemented the diversion to facilitate repairs to the damaged elevated section.

According to the NHAI, the Bani-to-Lucknow lane of the expressway will remain closed until next Friday. However, the expressway will not be completely shut for traffic.

According to Jagran.com, Project Director Navratan said repair work on the elevated section is currently underway, including concrete work. “For this, we usually take at least 28 days, but the agency is working rapidly. Therefore, the effort is to complete the remaining work in the next seven days,” he said.

Traffic will continue to move on the entire lane from Lucknow's Shaheed Path towards Kanpur. Vehicles travelling from Kanpur towards Lucknow will also be allowed to use the expressway up to Bani.

The Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway was constructed at a cost of Rs 4,200 crore and opened to traffic on July 14. The expressway has since faced questions over construction quality.

The project includes a 45-km greenfield section stretching from near Kader Patari village along Azad Marg in Unnao to Bani. Patching work is currently being carried out on approximately 85% of this section.

Meanwhile, the 18-km elevated section beyond Bani has also suffered damage twice so far.

In August, an issue was reported with a joint slab on the elevated section. The construction agency, PNC Infra, repaired it within 6 to 8 hours.
