A shocking incident was reported from Amoda Bijoora village in Madhya Pradesh’s Anuppur district on Saturday, where a man allegedly attacked members of his family with sticks, killing his mother, maternal grandparents and a five-year-old girl. Several others were also injured in the attack.
The incident took place in the Sarai outpost area under Karan Pathar police station. Police teams from Anuppur and neighbouring Umaria district reached the spot after receiving information about the attack, and additional personnel were deployed in the area.
According to preliminary information, the accused, identified as Prem Singh from Mardari village under Nowrozabad police station, had arrived at his maternal grandparents’ house in Amoda Bijoora with his mother around a week ago.
The situation reportedly escalated on Friday after Singh allegedly assaulted Ganga Singh, a priest associated with Sunny Dham. Villagers subsequently caught him and took him to his maternal grandparents’ house, where he was tied up with a rope.
However, his mother, Anupiya Bai, reportedly untied him after seeing him in distress.
After being freed, Singh allegedly attacked his mother with a stick. He then attacked his maternal grandfather Sampat and grandmother Bhanni. The three reportedly died in the attack.
The accused allegedly continued attacking other family members, including his maternal uncle Chain Singh. A five-year-old girl, Monka Singh, also died in the incident, while her sisters Bharti and Chanchal sustained injuries.
All the injured victims were taken to Shahdol Medical College for treatment. Ganga Singh, the priest who was allegedly attacked before the family killings, is also undergoing treatment and is reported to be in critical condition.
Accused Taken Into Custody
Police reached the village soon after the incident, with Anuppur Superintendent of Police and other senior personnel joining the operation. Police forces from both Anuppur and Umaria were deployed at the scene given the seriousness of the incident.
Prem Singh has been taken into custody, and police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack.
Previous Case Of Assault Involving Mother
Local sources said this was not the first reported incident of violence involving Singh and his mother. Around a year ago, he allegedly assaulted her in Mardari village, following which a case was registered and he was reportedly sent to jail.

Singh is also reportedly the deputy sarpanch of Mardari village.
There are also claims that the accused may have been suffering from a mental health condition, but police have not officially confirmed this.
The exact motive behind the attack, as well as the final number of deaths and injured persons, is expected to become clear after the police investigation.
