What Caused Mumbai Local Train Disruptions Today?
The disruption began around 10:00 AM when a fire broke out near Kanjurmarg station. The fire caused the signalling system between Thane and Vikhroli to collapse. Shortly before the fire, an overhead wire technical glitch occurred between Mulund and Thane, compounding the delays.
Hundreds of Monday morning commuters were stranded as a lack of signal clearance halted both slow and fast trains in both directions.

After waiting for hours, desperate passengers climbed down onto the tracks and walked toward the next stations to reach their destinations.

Railway administrative teams initiated emergency repairs, replacing damaged signalling cables, a process that took hours and delayed full restoration until late evening. By Monday night, officials confirmed three of the four affected lines were restored and urged the public not to walk on the tracks.
The disruption triggered widespread frustration among daily commuters, coming just a day after Central Railway executed a scheduled "Mega Block" for maintenance. Angry passengers questioned how a severe infrastructure failure could occur the very next day.
